Pack 98 is dedicated to a lively Cub Scout experience with activities that capture the interest of boys yet are fun for the entire family. Our Cub Scouts learn essential skills and enjoyment of outdoor activities, community involvement, personal safety, sports, and the environment. Pack 98 is a group of about 60 Scouts and their families.  Chartered by the First United Methodist Church we work with boys from several Fort Collins area schools. We meet at the church on Thursdays at 7 PM.

Snowshoe Hike on Saturday, January 31


Our second annual Pack 98 snowshoe trip is this Saturday, January 31. Please RSVP to Bill Clouser (wscii@comcast.net) by Thursday, January 29 if you plan to attend. We will meet at 8 AM at the FUMC southwest parking lot. We will carpool to the Bear Lake parking lot in Rocky Mountain National Park (1.5 hour drive) for a fun, low-key snowshoe hike from Bear Lake to Lake Bierstadt (3.2 mile round trip). The whole family is invited. Bring your own snowshoes or we can help you find some. We will return to FUMC around 3 PM. See the separate e-mail sent out on January 21 for full details.


Scout Sunday on February 8


Please join us on Sunday February 8th at First United Methodist Church to celebrate Scouting. Church services at 9:15a and 10:45a will be focused on Scouting and the positive impact it has on young lives. Those that have earned their Religious Emblem award in the past year will be publicly recognized for their accomplishment. Please email Matt Putman (put83co@yahoo.com) if you are planning to attend as we will be asking the Scouts to assist with the worship service by handing out bulletins, serving as greeters to the service, and flag ceremony. Please note which worship service you will be attending. And, please wear your Class A uniform to the service.


Blue and Gold Banquet is Thursday, February 19


Our annual Blue and Gold Banquet is Thursday, February 19 from 6 to 8 PM at FUMC. This is our annual banquet to celebrate the Birthday of Boy Scouts, and the achievements of Rank Advancement for our boys. Additionally, this is also our Friends of Scouting pledge drive to help raise money for our local Long’s Peak Council. Dinner starts at 6:00. We will take a Pack photo at 6:45 and the Meeting starts at 6:45. Dinner is $5 per person and RSVP’s are required by Sunday, February 8. To RSVP, please respond to the eVite that was sent out on January 26. Please contact Matt or Sarah Putman (putmanfcss@yahoo.com) with any questions.


Pinewood Derby is approaching


The Scouts should all have their free Pinewood Derby car kits and be planning their designs. Please see Matt Putman at a Pack Meeting or go to the Pinewood Derby Workshop if you want to purchase an additional kit ($5) for siblings or parents. The Pinewood Derby Workshop will be held Saturday, Feb 21 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at JNC Contractors (3225 Buckskin Trail in Laporte). The Pinewood Derby Check-in is Thursday, March 5 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at FUMC. The Pinewood Derby Race is Saturday, March 7 from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM at FUMC. Little Shop of Physics Open House at CSU on February 28


The annual Little Shop of Physics Open House is Saturday, February 28 from 10am-6pm at Colorado State University’s newly remodeled Lory Student Center. It is free, open to the public, and is appropriate for all ages from Pre-K on up. There will be over 350 hands-on science experiments, interactive presentations, activities from our Science Partners and for the first time ever: Science Spectacles! Scout Night at Colorado Eagles Hockey Game on February 28


The Colorado Eagles hockey team will be hosting their annual Scout Night on Saturday, February 28th vs. the Alaska Aces at the Budweiser Events Center. Tickets are $16. The first 200 Scouts in uniform will receive a new Colorado Eagles Scout Patch! There will be a special pregame speech including a guest speaker and multiple prize giveaways exclusively for Scouts. The Top 3 largest Packs or Troops will have the opportunity to participate in an intermission contest on the ice! And $1 per ticket sold will go back to the Longs Peak Council Boy Scouts of America. Sea Perch


SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program that equips teachers and students with the resources they need to build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). Students build the ROV from a kit, following a curriculum that teaches basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme. Throughout the project, students will learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications. Join The Pack

We hold our Pack and Den meetings in and around the First United Methodist Church in Fort Collins. Pack 98 is open to all boys from 1st through 5th grades. Boys may join the Pack at any time of the year.
