Pinewood Derby Race

The Pinewood Derby is approaching. Please see your Den Leader to get a free Pinewood Derby car kit for your Scout. Please see Matt Putman at a Pack Meeting or go to the Pinewood Derby Workshop if you want to purchase an additional kit ($5) for siblings or parents.

The Pinewood Derby Workshop will be held Saturday, Feb 23, 2019 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  Please log into Scoutbook.com for address and specific details. This is an optional workshop where you and your Scout can build your car. Bring your design plans and your car kit. Tools will be provided and extra car kits will be available for purchase. Parents must accompany their kids to the workshop and only parents are allowed to use power tools at the workshop.

The Pinewood Derby Check-in is Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM at First United Methodist Church (FUMC). Just drop-in anytime between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Cars will be inspected to make sure that they meet the size, weight and other requirements. There will be an area where you can take a photo of your scout and his car before the car is check-in.  All cars must be checked in this night or they will not race.  To prevent any confusion, please make sure scouts know that they cannot take their car home until after all racing is completed.

The Pinewood Derby Race is Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM at FUMC. There will be four different divisions for racing: Open Class, Lions, Tigers, and the rest of the Cub Scouts. The Open Class consists of parents and siblings and will race first. There are no trophies for Open Class and there is also no weight limit for Open Class.  Lions will race second.  Tigers will race third and will receive Speed and Show trophies that are separate from the other Scouts. The rest of the Cub Scouts will race last in order of age: Wolves, Bears, Webelos, and then Arrow of Light scouts. Show trophies include: Best of Show, Way Cool Dude, Best Scout Theme, Most Original, Best Paint Job and Best Do-It-Yourself. In addition to these Pack Awards, there will also be trophies for the fastest car in each Den. Please note that there is a maximum of one trophy per Scout, so scouts will only receive the highest priority trophy earned.

Scouts should wear their field uniform (blue or tan uniform shirt) for Check-in and Race Day.
